Celebrities Choose Mediation
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are the most recent celebrity couple to demonstrate the benefits of using mediation to provide the most amicable end to a marriage. According to US Weekly they are using a mediator to ensure the process will be, “simple and this takes the drama out of it. It is important for them to keep this nice and efficient for the sake of their family.” US Weekly goes on to say, “They’ve been married for a long time and tried to make it work for many years… They eventually realized this is the best thing to do for their family. They don’t want it to be contentious. A lot of people say that but they are doing things to ensure that it won’t be. There is a lot of love there but, they are doing what is best for everybody.”
It is important to keep the best interest of the children in mind when going through the process of uncoupling. It is easy to get caught up in the spousal drama, but the kids brought into this world did not ask to be a part of that chaos and must take precedent. ABC News quotes Garner and Affleck saying, ‘“We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children.”’ ABC News says, “Affleck will continue to live on the couple’s property in a separate house, and they will co-parent their children Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.”
Both parents provide different and important dynamics in any family, meaning both parents have necessary roles in the lives of the children. “Garner told InStyle magazine of their parenting dynamic: ‘I know who wants what lunch, and I’ve done all the school paperwork and filled out the emergency cards. Ben doesn’t know that stuff exists. He is in charge of laughter. No matter how much I tickle them or toss them or chase them around, it’s not the same. If I’m the slow, steady drumbeat, he’s the jazz.”’ Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are a great example for their children; it is not only about who they are today, but the men and women those children will become.
